Coaching Parents Through Co-Regulation: Core Techniques
New to working & teaching parents about regulation? This workshop will review co-regulation basics and teach mental health professionals play-based activities you can use with the children and families you work with.
Time & Location
Sep 26, 2026, 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM
219 South St, New Providence, NJ 07974, USA
About the event
This in-person training is designed for mental health professionals who are newer to play therapy or newer to working with parents/caregivers, and who want a clear, practical entry point into teaching families about dysregulation, self-regulation, and co-regulation. You'll leave with concrete language and activities you can use in session right away — no prior regulation-specific training assumed.
🎯 Learning Objectives
● Explain dysregulation, self-regulation, and co-regulation to parents/caregivers in plain language
● Identify common barriers that get in the way of a parent's ability to co-regulate with their child
● Select play therapy-informed activities that support caregiver-led co-regulation at different developmental stages
● Demonstrate language for introducing a play therapy-based regulation activity to a caregiver in a way that builds trust rather than shame
