About the Workshop

Join Christine M. Valentín, a licensed clinical social worker and Registered Play therapist at an in-person, CE training for mental health professionals.

Description: This in-person training is designed for play therapists who work in diverse settings and wish to enhance their skills in educating parents/caregivers of elementary school-aged children about dysregulation, self-regulation, and co-regulation.

Additionally, we will address the barriers some parents/caregivers face in regulating themselves and provide guidance on how to offer constructive feedback that strengthens the play therapy relationship and enhances their ability to co-regulate with their young child.

Participants will also learn and demonstrate activities/games that can be used in play therapy to promote regulation and co-regulation between caregiver and child.

Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Explain dysregulation, coregulation and self-regulation to Parents/Caregivers of elementary school aged children​
  • Identify barriers that impact a parent’s ability to self-regulate & co-regulate with their young child
  • Assess which play therapy activities are best for co-regulation and self-regulation with young children for the family you are working with
  • Demonstrate co-regulating and self-regulating play therapy activities

​Please note: Due to time constraints, this workshop will not focus on addressing issues related to certain disabilities and/or certain diagnosis.​

Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC is fully committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics. Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content and in the treatment of program participants.

The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of Christine M. Valentin, therapist and sole owner Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC.

While Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC goes to great lengths to assure fair treatment for all participants and attempts to anticipate problems, it recognizes that complaints do and will arise. Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC will do its best to anticipate problems and, when they do present themselves, will attempt to alleviate complaints as quickly as possible.

Refund Policy 
All refund requests must be made at least 7 days before the start of contact training.  Any deviation of this will be clearly printed on all promotional materials for a specific training. If a service charge applies for processing refunds it will be clearly stated on all promotional materials. You can send someone in your place if you are unable to attend a training and Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC needs to be notified at least 24 hours before the training is set to begin. 

Refunds will not be given to non-contact trainings.  

Grievance Policy
Any complaint can be directed to Christine M. Valentin at christine@cmvalentin.com. When a complaint, either verbally or written, is filed with Christine M. Valentin the following guidelines are followed with respect to achieving resolution: 

1. Complaints relative to a speaker or workshop leader, contents of instructional materials being presented, or an individual educational style being utilized, the individual voicing disapproval is requested to first address concerns to the presenter. If the presenter is not available, place his/her comments in writing. If the presenter is a different individual than Christine M. Valentin, Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC will convey these comments to the speaker while maintaining confidentiality of the complainant.

2. If the complaint concerns a continuing education activity, its content, level of presentation, or facilities in which the event is being held, Christine M. Valentin, LCSW, LLC, will attempt to resolve the matter as expeditiously as possible. If the offered resolution (resolutions may include, but not be limited to partial/full refund of fees paid; credit toward future event) is not satisfactory to the individual filing the complaint, then further action may be taken. In the latter instance, the individual is requested to place his/her complaint in writing to the attention of Christine M. Valentin. The complaint is then reviewed by Christine M. Valentin and an advisory committee of at least two mental health professionals who are experienced with offering Continuing education.

Your Instructor

Christine M. Valentín, LCSW, RPT

Christine M. Valentin began her work as a social worker in 2006 working in various non-profits until opening her private practice in 2010. She has worked with older adults, family caregivers of individuals with MS and Alzheimer's disease, adults and children ages 3-8.

Aside from begin a Registered Play Therapist and a Foundational Theraplay Practitioner, Christine also serves as the President of the New Jersey Association of Women’s Therapists (NJAWT) and is an Approved CE Provider for NBCC, APT and ACE.
